Living in NYC comes with a ton of pros! Any type of cuisine is readily available even for delivery. We have the best restaurants, people from all walks of life, tons of history and much more. BUT a big con is small spaces. Homes, offices and even doctors offices can be teeny tiny. And people get really creative. I went for a physical in a doctor’s office that was on the 1st floor of a 3 story home!
Scoring an apartment with a washer and dryer is considered the holy grail! Wanna see how laundry goes at our place? See here.
Here’s how we make our 990sq ft 2 bed 2 bath work for our family of 3, 2 adults and a 5yr old (and a small dog):
1. Closest: Almost all the closets have some type of dresser storage in them. And we go vertical as much as we can. Best believe those suitcases are scrunched between the top closet shelf and ceiling suffocating.
2. Constant purging: Daily question: Will I need this next month-6mos? Legit. If not, I will give it away on our local Facebook buy nothing group. This is a fb page where you can give or receive free items from neighbors. I love this group. A lot of our home decor is from this page. Search Buy Nothing (Your city/neighborhood name) to see if you have one!
3. 3 Day grocery shopping: Bulk grocery shopping where? Because where are we putting 3 months of toilet paper in this shoebox?! There’s a grocery store on the same block as our apartment so this isn’t too big of an issue. And also a lot of nyers don’t have cars so how are we getting 20 rolls of toilet paper home?
4. No TV in the living room: Kinda annoying. There’s no great place to put it so we went without one. We use laptops and the TV in the primary bedroom to watch TV.
5. Storage on patio: This I am super embarrassed about, but what’s a girl to do?! There’s no space! I for real have our old dining table and chairs, a shoe bench and way more just “chillin” out there. Judge me.
