When Jess Nielsen went away on her honeymoon nearly 10 years ago, a neighbor gave her something she’ll never forget. Mary, her first neighbor, gifted her an “Old-Fashioned Pounding” while Nielsen and her husband were gone. The southern tradition, Mary told her, was a way of provisioning the home with pounds of flour, sugar, wine, coffee, and other household staples. “The goods that filled our cupboards were useful, a step above, a little unexpected, and the thought was from the heart,” says Nielsen.
Since then, the word “provisions” has remained in her mind, and when she launched an online shop in 2019, she knew it needed to be included. Today, Provisions Co. has evolved from a little online shop to an in-person experience in Troy. “As you wander through my shop, my hope is you find our collections to have the same qualities – useful, a step above, a little unexpected, and from the heart.”
The brick-and-mortar shop boasts a curated collection of goods designed to celebrate Ohio’s history of innovation as well as a collection of spirits by A.M. Scott Distillery, where Nielsen is the CMO and her husband, Anthony Scott, is the owner.
The collection features home goods, barware, and distilled spirits, the majority of which were designed and made in Ohio, including the design team.
You can currently find Provisions Co. at 214 South Mulberry Street in Troy, however, they are currently in the process of renovating the Mayflower building on the Public Square in downtown Troy. Once the renovation is complete, the store will move there to 9 West Main Street. Additionally, a cocktail lounge, live event venue, and rooftop bar will open alongside Provisions Co. “It is a historic building that means a great deal to this community, and we look forward to bringing it back to life,” she adds.
