The next time you want to “float” away your worries, look no further than Gravity Spa.

“Gravity Spa is a unique little float spa in Beavercreek,” explains Owner Melony Wimer. “Since December 2011, we’ve been offering float therapy and massage with some of the most skilled and personable licensed massage therapists around.”

Wimer, who runs the business alongside her husband Kevin, says they first experienced floating at Spacetime Tanks in Chicago back in March 2010. “That drive home was the mellowest and most relaxed I had ever felt or seen Kevin,” says Wimer.

That experience inspired the Wimers to bring the then unique concept to the Gem City. And while floating has become a more popular form of self-care in the decade since Gravity Spa opened its doors, the Wimers have made their space one that combines relaxation and art.

“Before Gravity Spa, I only had a history in art and education, so you’ll notice art throughout Gravity Spa,” she says. “There’s a shelf of glass that I blew. There’s a mural and artwork for sale by local artist Coltan Tant. There’s always a canvas set up on a mural for guests to add a few strokes to. Creativity and ideas often come pouring out immediately after a float session so it’s fantastic to always have journals and sketchbooks available in the yoga room for afterward.”

There are a number of floating and massage options available at Gravity Spa. Float sessions range from 1 hour to 8 hours. There are 60- and 90-minute massages with add-ons including aromatherapy, hot stones, salt stones, and cupping. Prenatal massage therapists are available as well. “Floating while pregnant is incredible,” says Wimer. “It’s so quiet while floating that you can hear yourself blink and I could hear my son’s heartbeat when I was pregnant.”

Aside from being the first float center in the Miami Valley, Gravity Spa aims to provide customers with a unique experience. “We’re a place to help you step outside of your daily routine and slow down,” says Wimer. “We’re passionate about what we do in helping people overcome their stress, pain, and anxiety.”
Gravity Spa treats all of its customers special, but they offer military personnel and veterans (and their spouses) 20% off floats and 15% off massages. “We also have our Weightless Warrior program for veterans with PTSD to float free with us for 10 weeks in a row,” she adds.

There are no memberships required to float with Gravity Spa. “Our regular prices are comparable with the franchise’s introductory or member rate,” says Wimer. “So it’s an easy booking experience without having to contemplate the pressures of signing up for a membership.”

Other special days coming up for Gravity Spa include the opportunity for mental health professionals to float any time in January. “The only exchange is to come attend a round table discussion here about how they can all see floating being used as treatment with the pros and cons, and I’d love meeting professionals with multiple specialties that we could recommend our guests to.”

Gravity Spa is located at 1905 Woods Drive in Beavercreek – in the neighborhood behind the Beavercreek Library off of Dayton-Xenia Road.
