The Chic Guide: What is Last Day Studio?
Jacquie Smith, Founder of Last Day Studio: Last Day Studio is my collection of curated vintage and secondhand fashion. I source timeless, unique, and on-trend items that I hope will be loved by customers for years to come. I am currently set up inside of Ivy, my favorite little spot in Dayton! Liz, the owner, is awesome and has brought together so many local creatives.
The Chic Guide: What’s the inspiration behind it?
Smith: Last Day was created from my love for fashion and deep care for Mother Earth. I quit fast-fashion years ago after I quit my job working in fast-fashion and started buying mostly vintage and secondhand. It is one of the many steps I’ve taken to improve my carbon footprint and contribute to the fight against climate change. I hope to inspire others to shop sustainably and make more conscious decisions when it comes to where they spend their money.
The Chic Guide: Who’s behind it?
Smith: Like most small business owners, I am a one-woman show! There is a lot that goes into running a vintage clothing boutique and I do it all. Sourcing, mending and cleaning, measuring, pricing, photography, marketing, and social media are just a few of the tasks that need to get done throughout the week. I also work 30 hours a week and have a one-year-old daughter, so sleep often gets sacrificed. But when I see someone’s face light up when they try on something I’ve brought in, it is all totally worth it!
The Chic Guide: What can readers find in your shop?
Smith: I love offering pieces that follow the trends without making an impact on the environment. Most of the styles these days were trendy once before; it’s funny how fashion from the 90s and early 2000s has made such a comeback. I carry mostly feminine pieces in a large range of sizes. Size inclusivity is another issue I have with fast fashion and I try to offer pieces for every BODY.
The Chic Guide: What makes Last Day Vintage unique?
Smith: There are so many great vintage sellers here in Dayton and I think we are all amazing at showcasing our personal style. I pick things based on what I love to wear. I also spend a lot of time paying attention to what the influencers are wearing and what is trending during Fashion Week. I think what sets me apart is my ability to style the trends in ways you might not think to. And I love helping people who say that they “can’t pull that off.” If you love something, you should wear it!
The Chic Guide: Is there anything new on the horizon?
Smith: I would love to venture into men’s vintage. I also LOVE to crochet and it is pretty trendy right now. I hope to offer these things soon!
The Chic Guide: Where can readers go to learn more and follow along?
Smith: My Instagram page is where you can go to find out where I might be popping up, when I bring new stuff into Ivy, and anything else I might be up to!
