Chic Spotlight: Hartman Lavender Garden

Save the pollinators and shop good-for-you products made by a local couple.

The Chic Guide: What is Hartman Lavender Garden?
Whitney Hartman, Founder of Hartman Lavender Garden: Hartman Lavender Garden is a small business in Waynesville that makes the best skincare you’ve ever tried. Products start with the heartstrings of our formulas, our in-house distilled lavender oil from our lavender gardens at our residence. We are in 6 stores in the area and have the best customers in the world.

The Chic Guide: What’s the inspiration behind it?
Hartman: Hartman Lavender Garden started in August 2020, selling our dried lavender stems to a couple local stores in Lebanon and Springboro. I wanted to created beautiful skincare that could compete with luxury brands but at the same time, be INCREDIBLY healthy and safe for any age to use. Since we do not use any additives, our products are naturally fragranced and soft. You will not smell the unnatural harsh smells associated with traditionally sold products in large stores. We strive for the entire presentation to be classy and beautiful – it’s all in the details!

The Chic Guide: Who’s behind it?
Hartman: We are a husband and wife duo with backgrounds in biology, chemistry, plant care, and a love of conservation. I couldn’t do this without my supportive husband. We make products with care and customers in mind. Everything is harvested by hand, hand poured, and hand labeled. We create and package our items with fine details, tying in plants and pollinators wherever possible. Can’t forget our 7-year-old son who loves to check out his mom’s products in the stores and helps me harvest in the summer! He tags along on local deliveries.

My background includes a bachelor of science in biology, working toward my master’s in biology (coming December 2023) and my husband has the bachelor of science in chemistry. We LOVE our local community and help in ways that are our strengths. I also have a deep appreciation for nature and plant and animal education. My masters degree and love for nature has influenced my conservation connection with our business.

The Chic Guide: What products do you create?
Hartman: We only make what we specialize in: Lavender essential oil, MIST (lavender hydrosol spray), LipBalms, WHIP (the best moisturizer), Honey Lip & Body Scrub, Infused Algae Body Oil, and best for last, our beautifully harvested lavender stems (seasonal). We source local ingredients and ethically sourced butters from around the world in eco-friendly packaging. Our products last a long time because our skincare does not contain water, glycerin, or chemicals.

We sell apparel with our pollinator conservation logo so that our customers know there purchase goes towards an amazing cause.

The Chic Guide: Where can readers find your products?
Hartman: You can purchase our products on www.hartmanlavendergarden.com OR in the most wonderful shops listed below. Each of these stores hold a lot of meaning to us and are a perfect fit for HLG in Ohio:

Shoppe Smitten (Springboro & Oakwood), Grandmas Gardens (Waynesville), Refined (Greenville), Cedar Ridge Trails (Miamisburg), Blume (Lebanon), and it is used at BlissSkinStudio (Centerville)

The Chic Guide: Will you be participating in any events in 2022?
Hartman: I LOVE local shop events, but my other passion is teaching! I am a high school biology teacher at a local high school so my career, graduate school, family, and keeping our beautiful stores stocked takes up my time.

I would LOVE to see customers at our upcoming 2022 conservation events. Hartman Lavender Garden + Conservation is the main reason we do what we do! Here are our 2022 events:

June 2022 Speaking at Cedar Ridge Trails. How to make a Waystation Planter for migratory and non migratory pollinators. Learn the differences in host, nectar, and pollen producing plants that are important for bees, butterflies, and birds.

Sept/October 2022 Milkweed Pod Collections in Warren County. We take those pods (beneficial plant for Monarch Butterflies) to the Warren County Soil & Water Conservation District in Lebanon, OH

The Chic Guide: Is there anything new on the horizon for your business?
Hartman: We are frequently updating our product menu and have been welcomed into two beautiful new stores.
Shoppe Smitten (originally in Springboro) has expanded to a new additional store in Oakwood.

Refined Purveyors of Fine Goods recently opened a brand new location in Greenville. They recently added us to their beautiful store and they are dedicated hardworking family. These will be the farthest locations for our small business.

The Chic Guide: Where can readers go to learn more and follow along?
Hartman: We frequently update our Instagram and Facebook for product information, behind the scenes production, and conservation project information can be found on our website.
