The Chic Guide: What is The Funk Lab?
Kelly Dailey, Founder of Funk Lab: Funk Lab is Dayton’s only hip hop specialty dance studio. We are family-friendly and offer tasteful music and movement that is inclusive of everyone who walks into our doors. Our instructors provide authentic hip hop training in their genres and are performers themselves who continue to train in New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and other big cities.
The Chic Guide: What’s the inspiration behind it?
Dailey: I created Funk Lab after training in hip hop and other dance styles most of my life. I wanted to provide the community with a safe, family-friendly, and inclusive space to learn about authentic hip hop.
The Chic Guide: Who’s behind it?
Dailey: Myself and my incredible staff, as well as the talented students and supportive families of Funk lab Dance. Our studio is like a huge family!
The Chic Guide: What classes do you offer?
Dailey: We offer Hip Hop and breakdance classes for all ages as well as Popping/Locking/Funk and Graffiti Arts. We also have a sister studio, Modern Elements, that offers ballet, tap, contemporary, jazz, jazz funk, lyrical and more!
The Chic Guide: What makes Funk Lab unique?
Dailey: Funk Lab is unique being the first and only hip hop studio in the area, as well as we 40-50% of are students are boys! Our marketing and studio theme are gender neutral. We are inclusive of all and also offer free youth dance battles with cash prizes twice per year! Each year, we also bring in celebrity choreographers to teach classes at our facilities.

The Chic Guide: Is there anything new on the horizon?
Dailey: In January, we will be auditioning for the NBC TV show “World of Dance” and are excited!
