Chic Spotlight: Cream + Sugar Coffeehouse

A unique food and beverage menu in a calm space is what the owners of this Evanston-based coffee shop always dreamed of opening.

The Chic Guide: What is Cream + Sugar Coffeehouse?
Crystal Grace & Taren Kinebrew, Owners of Cream + Sugar Coffeehouse: Cream + Sugar Coffeehouse is a coffeeshop located Evanston. We are a coffeeshop that offers great coffee, lattes, teas, and smoothies with a plant-based menu. Our coffeeshop feels very warm and inviting ,offering good music vibes, black art, and exceptional customer service.

The Chic Guide: What’s the inspiration behind it?
Grace & Kinebrew: The inspiration behind Cream + Sugar Coffeehouse was created by Crystal Grace and Taren Kinebrew. We both have always loved coffee shops and great food. So we came together and created a space that represents what we love, which includes healthier food options, neo soul music, beautiful black art curated by black women, and a warm environment that welcomes everyone to come work, relax, meet up, and make new friends.

The Chic Guide: Who’s behind it?
Grace & Kinebrew: We go way back to Withrow High School. We have known each other since our teenage years. We both decided to bring our love of health and wellness and create Cream + Sugar Coffeehouse. Crystal Grace also is the owner/founder of Grace + Grit Spa and Taren Kinebrew is the owner/founder of Sweet Petit Desserts.

The Chic Guide: What’s on the menu?
Grace & Kinebrew: We have a plant-based menu that includes fresh salads using seasonal fruits and vegetables, pita sandwiches made from the same ingredients as our salads, brunch toast, yogurt bowls, pastries, and seasonal soups. Our drink menu includes amazing coffee in pour over form or lattes, teas, smoothies, and refreshers.

The Chic Guide: What makes Cream + Sugar Coffeehouse unique?
Grace & Kinebrew: Cream + Sugar is unique in that we were intentional about the design of the space. We put thought into having shades of blue to help people feel relaxed and calm. We have amazing art displaying strong women and men that can be purchased. There are plants throughout the space to also keep that peaceful feeling. Our space doesn’t look like a typical coffee shop and most people agree. Again can’t say enough about our plant based menu as we wanted to offer better food options and choices.
