The craft beer industry doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon, and the Cincinnati region’s reputation for being home to the best craft beer breweries is standing its ground.
Verge Brewing is looking to add its name to the list of breweries in the Tri-State in late 2022. The family-owned brewery is eyeing the West Side of Cincinnati, where there is a lack of other breweries.
Verge Brewing CMO Angela Praksti says the team behind Verge Brewing is made up of two families, the Benders and the Schmidts.
“Our leadership team is made up of half women, including myself, Tyra Schmidt, and Maddy Schmidt, and we’re proud offer strong Native American presence through Tyra and Maddy,” says Praksti. “We also have Greg Schmidt as head brewer and Schmidt family friend Phil Didion as assistant brewer, with Pete Bender as lead of operations.”
The two families first got together when Pete met Greg and Tyra through their home-brew club, the Bloatarians.
“While they were both entering into home-brew competitions, they hit it off and decided they wanted too o something together – Verge Brewing,” says Praksti.
The goal with Verge Brewing is to offer a beer that brings the community together.
“Our mission is to put excellence into practice through beer that supports a strong community,” the Verge Brewing website states. “We aim to elevate the neighborhood with excellent beer and excellent community stewardship.”
Ultimately, Verge Brewing wants to become a neighborhood favorite with a variety of events, offering the opportunity to support local causes, hang out with friends, and eat and drink good food and beer.
As the team continues to crowdfund, Verge Brewing is collaborating with Star City Brewing to launch a Belgian Tripel called On The Verge.
“You can find it at Star City up in Miamisburg until they sell out,” says Praksti.
