The Village Flower Farm

Grab your loved ones and head out for a genuinely unique flower picking experience.

Ready to disconnect from your busy life and retreat to somewhere we little more bright and happy? Look no further than The Village Flower Farm, a pick-your-own flower farm to refresh with those you enjoy spending time with the most.

Laura Skidmore, the founder behind The Village Flower Farm, says that she started this venture when she was going through a tough time herself. “We had sold our small farm and moved into town, but I discovered that I hated living on a small lot in town,” she says. “I missed the connection I’d had with our land and farm animals. I missed seeing the signs of natural that I knew so well – the hawks, the garden spiders, the wild plants. I felt lost without my farm.”

When you’re feeling lost, one of the best ways to find yourself again is to travel. That’s when Skidmore took an extended trip to Spain to think about what was next for her. “I knew I needed to be o a farm and working outside to be happy again, but I wasn’t sure what it would look like,” she says.

Eventually, she discovers that what she needed was to create a flower farm and share it with others. “I dreamed of it as a place where people could come with their friends and family, pick flowers, and be happy,” she says. “This farm really is a dream come true for me. It brings me so much joy, both growing the flowers and seeing how happy my flowers make other people.”

Those who venture out to The Village Flower Farm have the opportunity to connect with nature and take home a bouquet of flowers to commemorate their visit.

When you visit The Village Flower Farm, everything you need is already there. Flowers are sold by the container, so you just choose the size you want and fill it up with what speaks to you the most. Laura and her assistant Sarah are also on-site to help you with tips and tricks, giving you the best experience.

While you-pick flower farms are popping up all over the region, it’s the hospitality and variety of flowers that Skidmore says makes her farm stand out among the others. “I grow specialty cut flowers that you don’t often see in home gardens, plus fan favorites like yellow sunflowers, cosmos, and bright zinnias,” she says. “Some of the unusual flowers you’ll find here are fancy daffodils, specialty tulips, milkweed, and dahlias. I love it when someone says, ‘I’ve never seen a flower like this before!’ and I keep adding new, unusual flowers that make great bouquets.”

Not only is the flower selection unique, but Skidmore says that she enjoys welcoming each person to the farm like they’re an old friend. She’s there to offer assistance in arranging your flowers and will provide tips and tricks along the way for arrangements as well. “Seeing people have so much fun connecting with friends and family while picking flowers that I grew – it’s pure happiness,” she says.

While she’s enjoy the here and now of her flower farm, Skidmore is also looking forward to the future. She’s currently planning a large wildflower meadow for 2023. “There’ll be walking paths for people to wander, take pictures, and watch the butterflies,” she adds.
