The Turn Vintage

These two event spaces across the river are giving you the chance to enjoy time spent with loved ones while they handle the rest.

It’s a match made in heaven for Wendy Critcher and her husband, the owners behind The Turn Vintage and The Turn Events, two event venues located on Monmouth Street in Newport, Kentucky. Located just across the river from downtown Cincinnati, each of the venues offers an intimate vintage feel and housed in a century-old building with original tin ceilings, hardwood floors, and exposed brick.

The Critchers are a team that thrives on bouncing ideas off each other and who work hard to keep The Turn Events fresh and relevant. The couple says the inspiration for the business came from the beauty of the buildings in which they host events.

“The beauty of the buildings lent itself to using a vintage,  eclectic vibe, and we wanted as many people as possible to enjoy the venue,” she says. “Our smaller location started with the event venue in the back of a small, unique retail shop in the front. We didn’t anticipate keeping the shop but we find our clients really love the uniqueness of having the shop as part of the venue.”

The original building,  The Turn Vintage, launched in 2014 and can hold up to 75 seated guests. Meanwhile, the new location that was renovated in 2019 is named 828 The Turn. This venue can hold up to 150 seated guests and can accommodate a ceremony and reception. It has the ability to hold larger events for a cocktail style. 282 The Turn has a large outdoor area available to rent as well.

The Turn Events can host just about any type of event. “We have weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate events, charity events, showers, and all types of parties,” she says.

When asked what makes their event venue unique, the Critchers say it’s how hard they work for each and every client. “We work really hard to ensure their event is what they have dreamt about,” she says. “We  are also unique in that we provide  decor throughout the venue as well as centerpieces for each table, which can be personalized, saving both time and money for our clients.”

Each of the centerpieces at The Turn Events is made of dried eucalyptus and various vintage items and floral arrangements. Clients are given the choice to use all of the centerpieces or to customize them according to their own vision. There are also four different vintage styles of dinnerware available to rent,  and if this is chosen, set-up is included to ensure the tables are ready and appointed when guests arrive.

“Our clients do not need to clean up at the end of the event, such as stacking chairs, cleaning tables,  floors, etc.,” says Critcher. “We provide staff to take care of cleanup as part of the venue rental. We personally spent too much time at family and friends’ weddings cleaning up at the end of the  night along with the exhausted mothers and fathers of the brides and grooms, so we knew we wanted to provide this service in our businesses.”

Additionally, when you book with The Turn, you’ll find that they provide more than the standard event space and offer high-quality customer service to ensure each event is tailored to the client’s needs. “We are fortunate to have ample, free off-street public parking across the street and within a block of each location,” she adds. “We offer flexible catering and beverage options, including an option for clients to provide their own bar and beverages.”

The couple is currently working to update and renovate the upper level of 828 The Turn, which is currently not being used.
