The Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati and Blue Manatee Literacy Project launched the Queen City Book Bank. This new community resource hub provides for guaranteed book access to as many as 35,000 Greater Cincinnati students from Kindergarten to 6th grade.
The groups behind the Queen City Book Bank were able to work with other book banks from Baltimore, Cleveland, and Chicago to established their network of resources that will become a permanent fixture for students in the Cincinnati area.
“Queen City Book Bank will uniquely empower student reading advocates, including teachers, program partners, and reading specialists, to select and curate book collections for their students via a digital portal, the first model of its type in the country,” the Queen City Book Bank says.
Books can be chosen based on students’ proficiency, theme, languages, backgrounds, and interests.
A group of volunteers are working with the Queen City Book Bank to distribute books from their 20,000-square-foot space in Queensgate, which is also used as a hub of information and outreach for parents, educators, partners, and community members.
“Leveraging educational opportunities for Queen City Book Bank clients, visitors, and volunteers will transform the literacy landscape in our community, encouraging more tutors, more book drives, and enhanced awareness,” the Queen City Book Bank says.
Blue Manatee Literacy Project and the Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati say they are both excited about the impact they believe the Queen City Book Bank will have on the community and Cincinnati students.
