Summertime is full of fruity drinks, and whether you’re down for an alcoholic beverage or want to forego the libations, Mixicles can turn any drink into something more fun. “Mixicles are non-alcoholic botanical mixers in ice-cube form,” explains Mixicles Co-Founder Jen Morales. “Think of them as frozen ‘drinking blocks’ that you can layer and mix with spirits, wine, beer, seltzer, or other beverages to easily craft custom cocktails or mocktails.”

Morales, who co-founded the company with Jason Stitt, says they were inspired to launch such a concept after enjoying the flavors behind a cocktail but not quite loving the time and money required to recreate those drinks at home. “Plus, good craft-cocktail shortcuts can be hard to find – sometimes you want a delicious mixed drink without having to make a simple syrup, source exotic ingredients, and hand juice fruit (which you’ll probably use only a portion of and end up throwing out the rest after it sits in your fridge for a while),” she adds. “We’d seen the concept of an ice-cube infusion on a few bar menus, but no one seemed to be making a product like that for home use, so we decided to fill the void.”

Currently, there are 9 flavors of Mixicles available including Blueberry Lemon Basil, Cranberry Rose, Blackberry Lemon Thyme, Elderflower Lemon Mint, Smoked Black Cherry, Lavender Peach, Cucumber Lime Sage, Jalapeno Citrus, and Orange Blossom Passion Fruit. They also offer custom flavor blends for weddings and other special events.

When asked what it is that makes Mixicles unique, Morales says that it’s the brand’s ability to deliver craft flavors to cocktail enthusiasts in a novel yet simple way. “The cubes chill and flavor beverages without watering them down, and they stay fresh in the freezer for 18+ months,” she says. “You don’t need fancy tools to make a drink with Mixicles – just pop a cube into a glass, top it with your choice of spirit, wine, etc., and give it a stir. As the cube melts, it will infuse your drink with flavor that evolves and deepens with each sip.”

Additionally, since Mixicles are not specific to cocktails, there is a limitless number of drinks that can be created. “You can mix and match cubes, use them with or without alcohol, put them in smoothies, or simply enjoy them on their own as frozen treats,” she says. “Mixicles contain no preservatives or artificial ingredients, are low in sugar, and contain less than 25 calories per cube.”

Morales says that Mixicles is participating in Zoo La La this summer as well as many other events that they’ll share on social media when dates and details are finalized.

You can currently find Mixicles in the frozen juice section of Kroger grocery stores throughout the Tri-State, central and northern Ohio, and Michigan. They can also be purchased online and are also available as several specialty stores in the Cincinnati and Columbus areas.

Morales says that the team at Mixicles is currently working on a new flavor collection while also expanding its retail presence outside the Midwest.
