For many people, one of today’s most important issues is tackling climate change. One local company has decided to take this challenge head on by creating everyday, eco-friendly products.
“Responsible Products is a fast-growing Cincinnati packaging company that exclusively manufactures and distributes sustainable packaging,” says CEO Nathan Sedgwick.
At Responsible Products, the compostable and sustainable products are made from renewable plant materials such as sugarcane and corn. Because of this, the products require fewer resources to produce and create less pollution and plastic waste.
“By using annually renewable materials and being compostable, we achieve a truly sustainable product lifestyle,” adds Sedgwick.
Sedgwick was inspired to start Responsible Products when he noticed that many people continue to rely on plastic and Styrofoam.
“In the best-case scenario, that plastic and foam is used for 30 minutes for someone’s meal then taken away to a Rumpke landfill for 100 years,” says Sedgwick. “In the worst case, it pollutes the highways, rivers and lakes throughout our region. We are on a mission to help all restaurants and breweries throughout Cincinnati to stop using toxic plastic and foam and convert to responsible packaging.”
It may not seem like much, but according to a recent report released by the Break Free From Plastic Movement, 15 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean each year.
Sedgwick’s experience in manufacturing sustainable packaging products goes back to his time at Wright State University and the years after.
“After graduation I began working in the packaging industry, focused specifically on renewable and compostable packaging,” he says. “The work led me to work with major packaging companies throughout Europe, North America and Asia. After living and working overseas for a decade, I decided to bring my expertise back home and founded Responsible Products.”
Responsible Products has a catalog containing more than 75 renewable and compostable products across a wide range of categories including disposable tableware, drinkware, containers, utensils, kitchen bags, dog waste bags and more.
The most popular products for home are the compostable, resealable food storage bags.
“Ziploc bags have become ubiquitous in every home,” he says. “Responsible Products’ resealable bags offer a plastic-free alternative without compromising functionality and performance.”
