Change City

Keeping Cincinnati Beautiful

Read about local organization Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, which is dedicated to cleaning communities, and being at catalyst for change.

While many would argue that Cincinnati is a beautiful city already, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful (KCB) is going the extra mile to make sure it stays that way. Since its founding in 1978, KCB has been inspired to create a better today, and a brighter tomorrow for those who call the greater Cincinnati area their home. T

he organization is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. The nonprofit’s team is made up of 13 employees, but it engages with thousands of volunteers a year. Some of KCB’s most notable work includes the Great American Cleanup, Environmental Services, Green Space, Arts, and Education. In an email to Cincy Chic, the staff of KCB says that what they do truly helps the community.

“The programs are a catalyst for change, transforming under-served neighborhoods and empowering communities to create vibrant spaces that unite our city,” the staff says.

According to KCB, in just the past 10 years the organization has educated 200,000+ children, planted 100,000+ trees, and flowers, coordinated 120,000+ volunteers, and painted 1,000+ buildings. They have cleaned up eight million pounds of litter, 42,000+ tires, removed 7,000+ graffiti tags, and shut down dozens of illegal dumpsites shut down. When it comes to getting involved, KCB encourages people of all ages to try to make their neighborhood and community more beautiful. KCB’s volunteer program allows people to go out and work on clean ups while their Environmental Education program engages students.

Along with volunteering, anyone interested in leading their own community projects can apply for KCB’s Safe & Clean Neighborhood Fund Grant, open until August 6. The organization is also planning on hosting their annual Cincy Block Party fundraiser gala later this year.

KCB encourages anyone who wants to get involved to visit its volunteer website for more information. To follow along with KCB’s journey to make Cincinnati shine, you can also follow them on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook.
