Homeshakin’ It Up

The housing market is experiencing its biggest boom in years. Click here to read how a Cincinnati-based business is making the stressful process of home buying easier.

The housing market is hot right now and locally-based Homeshake wants to help make your home search just a little bit easier.

“Homeshake is a Cincinnati-based real estate company that is first-to-market with a peer-to-peer home sales platform, helping customers deal directly and complete a sale with zero commissions,” explains Homeshake Director of Marketing and Customer Experience Hannah Duckworth.

Since real estate is the No. 1 industry in the country, Homeshake’s CEO and Founder Nick Rabin wanted to build something that was innovative to the real estate world, so he came up with Homeshake.

The inspiration behind Homeshake comes from the team’s idea that buying or selling a home should be as easy a process as it is to purchase insurance, buying or selling a car, or going on vacation. “Homeshake provides the tools and support for people to complete a home sale from start to finish,” adds Duckworth.

Another important aspect of Homeshake is that the platform is built on zero commissions. “We felt that removing as much friction as possible and keeping more money in people’s pockets were both essential to improving the home sale experience,” says Duckworth.

Homeshake officially launched in January 2020, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, but a global pandemic hasn’t stopped the company from helping others buy and sell homes.

“We hit the ground running right away and have been hard at work supporting buyers and sellers and building a better, simpler, more user-friendly product and experience every single day,” says Duckworth.

Since it’s launch a year-and-a-half ago, Homeshake has more than $10 million in transaction volume, with an average sale price at 2.5 times higher than the local market average.

The goal of Homeshake is to simplify and streamline the home buying and selling process.

“Our solution lets buyers search, tour, and communicate directly with sellers,” says Duckworth. “They can make an offer and follow that all the way through closing on our Homeshake Deal Hub, which keeps everyone on track and organized.”

According to Duckworth, there are no listing contracts and no fees until the deal closes, allowing customers to take fewer risks when they use Homeshake.

There’s nothing else quite like Homeshake in the real estate market, so the team is able to bring a unique buying and selling experience to customers to utilize the platform.

Aside from being a one-of-a-kind product, Homeshake also has a unique inventory. “At any given time, only 1 percent of total home inventory is listed on the Multiple Listing Service (MLS),” says Duckworth. “Homeshake focuses on the other 99 percent. This ‘unlisted’ inventory includes coming-soon homes, private sales, for sale by owner (FSBO), pocket listings, and more.”

Those who are interested in buying or selling with Homeshake can sign up for a free account at homeshake.com. “We offer complimentary professional photos to all Homeshake sellers and have a team of licensed real estate professionals ready to help at any time,” says Duckworth.

If you’re shopping around on Homeshake with your free account and find a home you like, you can message the seller directly, schedule a tour, or make an offer all in on place.

Duckworth says Homeshake is already looking forward to the future, with the recent launch of the Homeshake Deal Hub, a platform that takes sales from the beginning all the way through to the end.

“This proprietary solution is unlike any other existing experience in home sales,” says Duckworth. “Buyers and sellers can access, sign, and track all of the necessary information, documentation, and steps without ever leaving Homeshake. Once a buyer makes an offer and a seller accepts the offer, they unlock the Homeshake Deal Hub to take them across the finish line.”

Additionally, Homeshake is looking to grow in regional market and an eventual coast-to-coast presence. They’re currently raising seed stage funding with the goal of hiring talent, expanding, and speeding up the product development process.
