Gresham Houze

A couple put their welding and woodworking skills to use by launching their own online home decor shop.

The dynamic duo behind Gresham Houze is crafting metal and wood items that will add just the right touch to your space.

Megann Thompson works alongside her husband Drew on their online, Dayton-based shop specializing in handmade metal and wood items for your home.

“My husband and I are the only members of our shop,” says Thompson. “All the metal products are made by him, and all the wood products are made by me.”

The story behind Gresham Houze started when Thompson found herself having trouble finding a large moon phases wall hanging in the size she needed.

“I asked my husband if he could make it,” she explains. “Since he’s been a welder since high school, he assured me he could. And it turned out, he was right.”

When Thompson shared her husband’s creation on Instagram, the requests started flowing in.

“That’s how our shop was born,” she adds. “Then, during 2020, I decided to take up woodworking and that’s when we started adding wood products to our shop as well.”

When you shop Gresham Houze, you’ll find the most popular product – the metal moon phase hangings ranging from mini size to extra large. Thompson says wood products vary, but cutting boards and charcuterie boards are typically available. Gresham Houze also offers a black cutting board that’s been burned using the Japanese technique of Shou Sugi Ban as well as custom ornaments.

Thompson says that what makes her shop unique is the wide variety of products you’ll find that you can’t find in many other places.

“There’s always something a little different about our pieces that sets them apart from the others,” she says. “All of our products are handmade instead of being produced by a machine, and we incorporate recycled metal and reclaimed wood as often as possible.”

Not only is the couple creating unique pieces with a story, but they’re doing their part in saving the planet.

The couple is also looking forward to what’s to come for their small shop. “This year we plan to combine wood and metal and make unique and custom furniture pieces,” says Thompson. “Plus, I’ve been experimenting with expose, so that will definitely feature soon.”
