Gem City Dwell

Looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the city? This humble abode gives you the space you need and a unique opportunity to shop its furnishings.

Step inside an urban oasis when you visit Gem City Dwell. The home, an extension of the novel retail experience The Shoppable Home, is the idea of Shannon Oakes and her mom.

“We created a thoughtfully curated, professional designed abode that provides a respite from its bustling urban surroundings,” explains Oakes.

The home, located at 27 Brown Street, is in the heart of the Oregon District and began accepting its first bookings in December 2021. Built in 1886, the home has plenty of space, natural light, a backyard with a fire pit, brass finishes, and is footsteps away from the city’s main attractions, making it an ideal space to “get away” for a few days.

Oakes says she purchased the house at auction, and it was in pretty rough shape when they took possession of it. However, the goal was to preserve as much of the original home as possible in order to create a unique experience for its future guests. “We kept as much of the architecture as possible all while modernizing it a bit with our finishes,” she adds.

Not only does Gem City Dwell offer an escape for its guests, but it also serves as a unique shopping opportunity. You see, many of the furniture pieces in the home are available to purchase for your own space. “By partnering with local makers for some of the furnishings, we are able to offer various discounts to guests on their wares,” explains Oakes. “Some dining, wellness, and activity discounts are also included for those who stay at 27 Brown Street.”

Oakes says that when you stay at Gem City Dwell, you’ll have everything you could possible want during your stay. “We are dog-friendly and even have a fire pit out back,” she adds.
