Change City

Financially U

Shauntel Dobbins was a single parent to 3 children. Throughout her journey, she found there were ups and downs.

“I know what it’s like to receive food stamps and receive a housing choice voucher, but I always felt it was not my definition,” she says. “I had a village that would help me with my children and inspire me to elevate my thinking about my life.”

That’s when Dobbins discovered that those struggling in personal finances had no resources to turn to and help them find a pathway to success. There was, however, plenty of judgement.

And that’s when Dobbins found her calling, and knew she wanted to make a change.

“This is why I am so passionate about helping the community, especially single moms, become financially successful in a non-judgmental atmosphere,” she says.

Today she is the founder behind Financially U, a financial resource network providing tools and resources for financial success.

Financial services available at Financially U include financial literacy workshops such as credit building, budget & saving strategies, and banking relationships; financial literacy workshops for small businesses; one-on-one financial coaching; tax preparation; and Notary Public/signing agent services.

Dobbins says that what makes her business unique is offering the ability to meet customers where they are in their financial life in a non-judgmental way.

“We understand that financial decisions are not made in a vacuum,” she says. “Many things influence financial decisions such as: values, culture, and tradition. Knowing this, we are intentional about showing empathy with our customers.”

Dobbins is looking forward to the future of her career. She just self-published her first book called “Prospering Thoughts: God’s Thoughts About Prosperity.”

“It is a faith-based book that will allow the reader to journal, set financial goals, and receive inspiration,” she says. It is available on Amazon and Dobbins is currently planning a book signing.
