Chop Local

A husband-and-wife team turned a hobby into a thriving business with their woodworking skills.

After finding a knack for woodworking, husband-and-wife team Paige and Nathan Bolling decided to put their skills to use and launch Chop Local.

“We are a husband-and-wife woodworking team based in Dayton,” says Paige. “We made modern, boho, and mid-century inspired wooden home decor. We are also plant enthusiasts, and enjoy making plant-related items including propagation holders.”

The Bollings decided to take their passion for woodworking and turn it into a business during quarantine and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We were faced with long furloughs and the risk of job loss,” she says. Her husband, who is a firefighter, has been a hobbyist woodworker for years, and after friends and family showed their interest in getting help from the Bollings, offering their services region-wide only seemed like the next logical step.

“Our business was fueled by the need for more local businesses and artists, and the importance of supporting the local small business community,” she says. “After starting our Etsy store in July 2020, orders took off and we never looked back.”

When you shop Chop Local, you’ll find a number of pieces available ranging from modern to boho and even mid-century inspired items. “Our favorites are mid-century and boho-inspired propagation holders,” says Paige. “We also make modern-inspired wood and fiber pieces that can be customized to fit any space.”

Paige says that they strive to create products for their shop that you can’t find anywhere else. “We love thrifting and mixing old with new, so our items are usually inspired by 60s and 70s home decor styles but with a modern twist,” she adds.

The couple is currently working on shop upgrades so that they can offer variety of items for wholesale. “We are also excited to start making larger furniture pieces for the 2022 holiday season,” she adds.
