Chic Spotlight: Sweet Joy

Ready to add a little joy in your life? Check out these sweets made by a Morrow-based baker!

Cincy Chic: What is Sweet Joy?
Nikki Alexander, Founder of Sweet Joy: Sweet Joy is a local dessert bakery that specializes in cookies! All kinds of cookies — royal icing, homestyle gourmet, sandwich and stuffed!

Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind it?
Alexander: The inspiration behind Sweet Joy is to simply Spread JOY with Cookies! I started baking after my 4th child was born and I was in the thick of battling Postpartum Depression. Seeing the joy on peoples faces when they received their cookies was so rewarding for me and helped me heal during that dark time.

Cincy Chic: Who’s behind it?
Alexander: I started the business in 2016, and Brandon(my husband) was able to quit his job when the bakery opened and now we do this full time together.

Cincy Chic: What bakery items do you offer?
Alexander: We offer cookies of all kinds!! We are known for our delicious Royal Icing cookies, but we have expanded to Homestyle, Stuffed and Sandwich cookies since we have opened the bakery! Our most popular Homestyle cookie flavor is our Apple Cider cookie with a Bourbon Glaze and our most popular Stuffed cookie is our Chocolate Chunk stuffed with an Oreo!  We also have 18 other vendors who sell their homemade products in our store. We love being able to give other small businesses a space to share their creations!

Cincy Chic: Do you have a bakery or do you bake out of your home?
Alexander: Both! We bake at home and we just opened up a bakery in the Morrow Arts Center and that is where we sell everything.

Cincy Chic: What makes Sweet Joy unique?
Alexander: I think what sets Sweet Joy apart from other places is the atmosphere. Our cookies are the best around, but we want people to walk into the bakery and just feel joy. We want to love like Jesus and we want our customers to always want to come back!

Cincy Chic: When did you launch Sweet Joy?
Alexander: We launched Sweet Joy Kitchen on Christmas Eve of 2016, and when we opened the bakery in 2021 we dropped “Kitchen” and just go by Sweet Joy now!

Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon?
Alexander: There is always something new on the horizon! We are working on new seasonal flavors and more coffee drinks!

Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more and follow along?
Alexander: Follow us on our social media sites – Facebook and Instagram. We do all of our communication through there!
