The Chic Guide: What is Mindful Balance?
Bridget Petri, MS,LPCC-S, Owner and Clinician of Mindful Balance: Mindful Balance is a holistic mental health counseling practice, focused on using both evidence-based and alternative practices to treat each person as a whole instead of looking at them as solely their symptoms or a diagnosis. I’d say my approach is a mix of eclectic, relational, and person-centered. I primarily work with teen girls and women helping build self awareness and a deeper understanding of themselves and also building healthy and positive relationships.
The Chic Guide: What’s the inspiration behind it?
Petri: As a young adult I struggled with anxiety and sought out unhealthy relationships. I had a difficult time finding a counselor who didn’t focus on a diagnosis or solely on symptom reduction but who looked at me as a person needing to develop a deeper understanding of my identity and who took a holistic approach to treatment. I wanted to know the deeper “why” to my behaviors and emotions. So after doing my own personal work (and continuing to do so) I went to grad school with the hopes of being able to provide that space I needed as a young adult, for others.
The Chic Guide: Who’s behind Mindful Balance?
Petri: For now I am the sole practitioner but never opposed to the idea of growing my practice! I am a licensed professional clinical counselor with supervision designation. I attended Wright State for both my Bachelors in Psychology and Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I started my career splitting time between adult and adolescent inpatient units and an adolescent partial program which provided a great foundation and experience as a therapist. Following that I worked as a school based therapist in a high school then as an outpatient therapist. I love working with teen girls and young women through transitional periods in their lives!
The Chic Guide: What services do you offer?
Petri: At this time I offer psychotherapy sessions both in person and virtually. I take self pay as well as a handful of insurances. I also offer free 15 minute consultations to potential clients to ask any questions, and get a feel if we may be a good fit prior to scheduling an appointment!
The Chic Guide: Where are you located?
Petri: My office is located in Kettering within The Well, a new center focused on providing holistic wellness for women. I am able to collaborate with other practitioners to provide all around care for women in one safe and welcoming environment. It is my dream office location!
The Chic Guide: What makes Mindful Balance unique?
Petri: I truly think I offer a space of non-judgement and unconditional support. I absolutely love being able to hold space for clients to feel safe to process anything and everything they are experiencing in life. I also think my location and the ability to collaborate with other practitioners to best serve my clients is an amazing opportunity and I’m grateful to have been able to join The Well!
The Chic Guide: Is there anything new on the horizon?
Petri: At this time my focus is supporting my existing and new clients. I hope to offer a support group or group series in the future. I would love to offer a group on self care, setting boundaries, and overcoming burnout! But I am also curious what the community is interested in or needing the most right now, so I am open to suggestions!
