Tucked away in the countryside of Miamisburg is Cedar Ridge Trails, a family-run lavender farm. The 78-acre farm owned by the Pascoe family invites guests to their farm to enjoy Mother Nature, tranquility, and the opportunity to enjoy outdoor, lavender-inspired events.
“It feels like you’ve escape to another world out here with the tree-lined rolling hills, wildflower fields, walking trails, and, of course, the hillside lavender garden,” says Lindsey O’Donnell.
While the family calls the land home, they see it as a space to share with others. Generations before them have called the farm home and they want to celebrate the history behind it – including the face that one of the founders of Dorothy Lane Market in Dayton, Calvin Mayne, grew up on the farm.
“He and his family raised dairy cattle and would keep the milk cans cool in the nature spring water that still flows to this day,” says O’Donnell. “The milk cans would remain in the springhouse until the dairy company would pick them up. An aspiring grocer, even at a young age!”
The most recent history of the farm, when the Pascoe family moved in, started in 2018. When the family moved onto the property, O’Donnell says everyone immediately fell in love with the beauty and history of the farm.
“We knew we had to find a way to share it,” she says. “We selected lavender because it is relaxing, beautiful, and brings people together. All the qualities we wanted for our family farm.”
Additionally, the family knew that when it comes to lavender, its uses are endless. Whether you’re drying it out for decoration, distilling it to make an essential oil, using it in wellness products, or cooking with it, there’s really not anything it can’t be used for, and that’s why Cedar Ridge Trails has 17 varieties of lavender.
Gary and Joy Pascoe own the farm, and their children and their families operate the farm as a team. Operations at the farm include a seasonal u-pick flower farm and art and wellness events like u-pick lavender, wildflowers, and sunflowers; painting, Plein Air Drawing, wreath and centerpiece making classes; morning yoga; family yoga; and day wellness retreats.
“We also invite small groups to join us for outings to learn about growing, tending, harvesting, and using lavender,” says O’Donnell.
Photographers are also given the opportunity to reserve the space for sessions throughout the year.
Lindsey says that what makes Cedar Ridge Trails unique is that they offer a space of tranquility and peace for others to visit. “Walking through lavender fields on the rolling hills helps our guests unwind and experience a sense of relaxation that only nature can provide,” she says.
The family says that what they enjoy the most about running Cedar Ridge Trails is that they provide opportunities for families, friends, and co-workers to join them and create their own experiences and new stories to share.
October 2 is a big day at Cedar Ridge Trails as they will be hosting two events on the same day. At 1:00pm there will be a Pumpkin Succulent Centerpiece Class with Tipp City’s Fairy Dust & Rust and at 6:00pm there will be a Fall Floral Wreath Making Class with Dayton’s Sweet Virginia’s Flowers.
Following the classes there will be an opportunity to wander the trails, pick flowers, and explore the Farm Stand. The Farm Stand features lavender-inspired home, wellness, and culinary products created by Cedar Ridge Trails.
And, since the holidays will be here before we know it, Cedar Ridge Trails has their Etsy shop ready to go. “We’ve made it simple for our customers to shop unique, locally-made gifts on our Etsy shop,” says O’Donnell. “From stocking stuffers to git boxes to share with friends, neighbors, coworkers, and teachers, or to treat yourself.”
Cedar Ridge Trails can also create custom orders for weddings and other celebrations. “Lavender is a great way to accessorize your special occasion,” she adds.
