Cauldron Cookie Co. may be a designer sugar cookie bakery, but the business and its owner Jackie Wagner are doing much more than just creating beautiful cookies. Based in Bellbrook, Wagner’s passion for decorating sugar cookies started at a young age and a family tradition around the holidays.
“Of course, in the earliest years, this meant messy clumps of icing that were lucky to land on the cookie and heaps of rainbow jimmies,” she explains. “I really began practicing with royal icing while attending Sinclair Community College for Fine Arts in my early 20s. My teachers at Sinclair encouraged me to think outside the box and I found icing was a very fun and challenging media.”
Cauldron Cookie Co. serves as a way for Wagner to help clients celebrate loved ones in a personal way while also serving up tasty treats. The menu at Cauldron Cookie co. includes vanilla and almond sugar cookies.
“Each custom cookie set I create is personally designed for its recipient based on the information my client shares with me,” says Wagner when explaining her design process. “My goal is not only for each set to be cohesive and beautiful, but for it to be truly meaningful. I’ve had quite a few emotional responses from clients, which makes every bit of the process worth it.”
Now, in addition to her cookie business, Wagner is a licensed veterinary technician with a fine art degree who also helps install clean water systems internationally. “I have found that life is only fulfilling when you take the necessary risks to do what truly brings you joy,” she says.”No matter how niche or off the wall, whether it is one passion or five, even if everyone thinks you’ve lost your mind – do what brings you joy. It’ll lead you where you need to go.”
Wagner recently joined Living Waters for the World, installing clean water systems in rural communities around the globe. “My team focuses specifically on communities in Guatemala,” she says. “I am very excited to see how I am influenced, both as a cookie artist and a small business owner, by the Mayan culture as I spend more time in this beautiful country.”
You can find Cauldron Cookie Co. at the Oakwood Farmers Market most Saturdays through October from 9am to 1pm.
