Quinn Mcilhargey-Nicholson’s uncle owned a furniture company. It was then that she first picked up a piece of leather and knew there was so much that could be done with the scraps, rather than throwing them away.
“I wanted to create something out of the scraps that would be functional and enhance the natural beauty of the leather,” she says.
That’s when she decided to launch Baqette, a small, woman-owned business that creates and curates leather pieces inspired by everyday life. Baqette offers cardholders, clutches, crossbody bags, and other handmade leather goods.
“We’ve been creating mainstay styles, staying inspired for new designs, and have added non-upcycled leather to support the color combos that inspire me most,” she adds.
Mcilhargey-Nicholson is the one-woman show behind it all, and all the items she creates for Baqette are handmade in Cincinnati from start to finish. “We have a small studio, endless creative ideas, and an inclination to create meaningful pieces to grow with you,” she says.
As her store continues to grow, Mcilhargey-Nicholson says she’s excited to launch a new handbag this print, which is part of a collaboration with a local maker to create a brand new style. “I don’t want to spoil anything, but follow along on Instagram to see the announcement,” she adds.
