Atypical Nail Salon

Ease into a safe space at this inclusive nail salon.

If you’ve ever left the nail salon feeling a little uneasy, you’re not alone. Marie Bonaccorse wants to change that with her safe and inclusive nail salon, Atypical Nail Salon.

“My salon is a space that caters to the clients who are looking for something different from the traditional, big box/chain nail salons,” she explains.

Bonaccorse is a late-diagnosed neurodivergent, with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her diagnosis helped her to understand why she always left the salon feeling more anxious than when she walked in. It also inspired her to create a space that she always needed – something low-sensory, with no offensive smells, tools that are low- to no-noise, and all-inclusive pricing that takes aways the anxiety and guesswork out of each visit.

There are a variety of services available at Atypical Nail Salon, but all of them are healthy-nail focused. “I offer manicures and pedicures,” says Bonaccorse. “My manicures are customized to the person, their budget, needs, and lifestyle. I specialize in dry/waterless manicures, which is a modified Russian-style manicure, and structures gel. And my pedicures are known for their complete start-to-end pampering.”

Bonaccorse says her salon is dedicated to clients who consider themselves neurodivergent, with techniques and tools that cater to them. The space also has weighted blankets, ear plugs, eye masks, a client-controlled television, and tip-included pricing that helps ease anxiety.

“I’m also the only licensed nail tech who is certified and uses Bio Sculpture as my marquee product,” she adds. “I also carefully curate my products from other brands that are ethically and professionally made – from Luminary to Nail Thoughts, Izemi, and Light Elegance, I only choose the best.”

Atypical Nail Salon is located at the Shops in Harpers Point, where she has a private space in My Salon Suites. You can learn more about Atypical Nail Salon at www.atypicalnailsalon.com or by following along on Instagram.
